Blau?!

What’s up with Laidback Luke and Lee Mortimer‘s “Blau”? Seriously, all the big names are dropping this track, but for us poor dj’s without good connections it isn’t even released yet? I’ve finally got a decent version of the LA Riots remix thanks to electrocasts.net, but I’m in despered need of the orginal one. The nice long build up, followed by an unexpected nasty wobble. The LA Riots remix is good, but the nasty wobble comes less unexpected and a bit less “nasty”.

Come to the Dark Side

First heard this tune at Jacked! Leuven, awesome party with Mightyfools, Project Cyborg, … and Dj Manaia. He was the one dropping this track. I told myself, damn I’ve got to know who’s edit this is. I had a small chat with DJ Manaia and …. totally forgot to ask him about it. Anyway, thank god for social networks like Facebook because Dj Manaia was so kind to reply and tell me it was a track from Klipar who Dj Manaia is currently working with on a side project called “Zombies For Money”.

The track itself then is something for the Star Wars fans among us, it’s what you might call an “updated” version of The Imperial March. Some kicks and beats, a break here and there and all I need now is my toy lightsaber!

EX CARTER

Ex Carter is an upcoming dj/producer from the UK. I had never heard of him but his remix of Tricky Tricky and Pon de Floor have already been played on Radio 1 by the one and only Kissy Sell Out. I’m really digging The Fever (removed) and his remix of Back Again. Also be sure to check out his October mixtape!

INTERVIEW: WAXDOLLS

On friday the 6th of November the WAXDOLLS had to play a set at Fight Klub, Brussels. I stopped them before they jumped on stage and asked them a few questions. For the ones who don’t know WAXDOLLS, they are two crazy fools who love to smash rocking guitar riffs and electronic bleeps together and regularly crowdsurf all the way to the exit.

How did you guys meet?
Well, we were at the same school. I (Lieven) was in class when all of a sudden the professor said to everyone to be quiet. He went to a chair where someone (Wim) was sleeping. He took a book and punched him. I thought it was so funny that I had to meet him.

When did you come up with the idea to start under the name Waxdolls?
Wim and I were in a school with 600 girls and a few boys. In that time the band “Hanson” was very famous among youngsters. They had very long hair and many girls were in love with them, we also tried to grow long hair and with success. We were getting loads of love letters from girls at our school.
It was also the time where every boy was in a band, so did we. Wim was the drummer and I played the bass. We weren’t professional but it was real fun to do. Later on we decided to create our own band, WAXDOLLS was born.

Your album “High Speed Killer Ride” was released in May 2009. How is it going so far?
It’s doing great. It was released in Belgium, the Netherlands and also on Itunes. The album opened many doors for us, ever since the release we got many bookings for parties and even a few festivals during the summer, we’re not complaining.

You recently made a video clip for one of your tracks, “15 minutes”. Why this track?
15 minutes had some more guitars in it than our other tracks. We thought it would reach a larger audience. Another reason is because we both think that it’s the best track on the album.
The track is also remixed by Modek. You can buy his version here

Waxdolls are often compared to Goose, is this something positive?
Yeah, we don’t think that it’s something negative but also not really positive. We are compared a lot with other artists but we actually do something completely different. The one thing that we have in common are vocals and a guitar.

Do you have some kind of project comming up? For example a new track or even an album?
No not really. We are currently taking it slow. By slow we mean playing in clubs, etc. We recently went to the Netherlands and just came back from Paris.

Hooded dancefloor terrorists

Hooded Dancefloor Terrorists! Or … better known as South Central. Saw these guys last summer at Les Ardentes (Belgian festival) and damn what a filthy set, a lot of rock influences in a rave-to-even-trash like set. South Central just finished touring as a DJ set at some big French festivals and is looking forward to support the electro sensation The Prodigy on their UK Tour. South Central seems not only to be a dj-duo but a “indie-dance” band aswell. The band has just finished recording their first official LP – after “The Owl Of Minerva” a compilations of previous single released earlier this year. The LP will be launched in 2010 and South Central is looking forward to go on tour later as a live band. While I look into the band thing here are two of their latest remixes as DJ/Producer duo.
