Richie Beretta – Zombie Prom Night

Richie Beretta is a dj/producer from New York who recently mailed us my favorite feel good song of the moment. I’m lucky I haven’t got any exams like many of you do but I’m making my thesis as we speak and this song, or tomorrow’s deadline, really gave me some more motivation.
If you are one of the lucky guys who doesn’t have to study, I advise you to read this slightly cliché story about a nerd Zombie who is going to prom:

If Zombies had the privilege of going to High School this would be their Prom theme song. Imagine if you will: It is 1997 and Stanley the quiet polite zombie is asking Daisy the hot popular zombie to the prom. And Daisy, that scornful bitch, she declines because she’s going to the prom with Lumbar Jones the quarter back of the football team, the Howard Beach Brain Eaters.

Fastforward to Prom night, and our hero, Stanely, is alone at the table in his aqaumarine tuxedo his mother bought for him at a second hand store. He sees Daisy disappear from the dancefloor with Lumbar Jones out into the parking lot and his heart sinks. Meanwhile in the parking lot Lumbar Jones is being a bit too forceful with Daisy – and Daisy tries to explain to Lumbar that even though she shakes her ass on the dancefloor like a huge zombie whore and wears overly revealing clothes to Home Ec. that she’s waiting for marriage to have sex. Lumbar Jones says “come on baby it’s prom” Just then Daisy realizes that Lumbar is only interested in her rad Zombie bod and that she passed up the man of her dreams, sweet sweet Stanley. Just then she rushes back into Russo’s on the Zombie Bay and shouts “Stanely!” Stanley looks up in disbelief as Daisy rushes over and says “wanna get outta here?” They hop in the limo and go to Sound Factory for the after prom party and eat a bunch of humans.

Midnight Walk

Next track I’m going to talk about I like to place in the genre I like to call “feelgood electronic music”. Other artists I like to place under this genre are for example: Grum and Yuksek. The productions and remixes they make have always such a nice easy listening melody, which is most of the time topped of with the best vocals out there.

The track I’m posting today is not from Grum or Yuksek but from a new and fresh artist from Chile called Barretso (is it me, or does he look a lot like Felix Cartal? haha). His track “Midnight Walk” has that feelgood melody I was talking about, the only thing I was waiting for in the beginning was a good vocal or something, which then came halfway in the track, but more words then “You make me feel much better” don’t come out. In the end a great, great, greaaat track, but I would have loved some more vocal work in it (imo). Midnight Walk is the third track of his upcoming EP “Bright City Lights” which will be released on Tuff em up! records.

Shaved Monkeys – Get Rough

A lot has changed since I last made a post about Shaved Monkeys. They have a new track coming up called “Get Rough” and as you can hear in the preview, the track name was well chosen. The track starts of with a nice melody/intro interrupted by a badass vocal which is then, on his turn, followed by a quality raw rave electro tune. Their new track is already getting supported by names such as Stereoheroes, Mustard Pimp, NT89, Soda ‘n Suds and Aerotronic.

A couple of weeks ago we featured Antwerp dubstep duo Science with their track “Heal My Hurts”. This quality tune sampling Faithless got a lot of support in the dubstep scene. Many people wanted a copy of the track, so now Science decided to send out a free, full quality version. Show these guys some love at their myspace, facebook or soundcloud.

This mixtape is great mixture of new, classic and real party tracks. Well mixed certainly for a live party recording. Too bad the input was I think a bit too loud now and then, but that’s another risk of live recordings at partys. Talking about partys, medfunc organises a banging party called Sweet next month in Leuven with a huge line-up!

Shiny Toy Guns – Ricochet (Nadastrom Head Spin Dub)

Shiny Toy Guns – Ricochet (Nadastrom Head Spin Dub)

Threnody

SebastiAn‘s new track Threnody is creating quite a hype on the blogs. I first heard it from the electrocasts.net blog and I was like “what the f* is this?”. The track (which is 13min long) has a 11minute(!) build up before we hear the typical trash electro for which SebastiAn is famous. Besides the dramatic long build up, the track doesn’t bring anything new under the sun. It’s just another SebastiAn track. “Fun fact” about the track is that SebastiAn uses a sample from “Krzysztof Penderecki – Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima” a polish composer/conductor of classical music. If you haven’t heard the original one, I would like to refer you to electrocasts.net.

What I got for you guys is a basic, but very effective, edit of Threnody by Capt and Cooked. They got a rid of the 11 minute build up and instead you get 5 minutes of the SebastiAn trash electro like it should have been (in my opinion)!
