First Blood

February 18th, 2010 | Hyped by REDNIK

Another banging new release on the Monkey See Monkey Do label, this time from rave, trash, electro rockers Aerotronic. The EP is called “First Blood” and is available on iTunes, Beatport and Juno. The EP features 3 tracks Ravers nightmare, Bezerk and Helicopter. Ravers nightmare is by far my favourite track, amazingly raw and absolutely not for the weak hearted! I guess in the end this description counts for all 3 tracks. You can completely pre listen the EP in the soundcloud embedded below!

Memories

February 14th, 2010 | Hyped by REDNIK

David Guetta seems to have found a success formula. Make a catchy club tune and get a top artist for the vocal collaboration. I must say I like some of his productions especially the movieclips that go along with it. Always a nice story matching perfectly to the lyrics. (All I’m telling here is apart from his previous hit “Sexy Bitch”, which couldn’t interest me for a minute, I’m probably just not so keen on Akon.)

Memories, his latest hit is a colaboration with Kid Cudi, one of my favourite rappers of the moment, but I have to be careful with the word ‘rapper’ apparently, not so much hip-hop enthousiasts see Kid Cudi as a rapper, but more like someone who nags about his stoner life (they had a better phrase for it, but I can’t find the blog I read it on). I’m not an expert on the genre but I think he is doing a great job, haha!

I wasn’t planning on posting about memories because you were already seeing it everywhere, but then I stumbled on this Armand Van Helden remix. I was really hoping that this remix would turn out like his remix for ‘Dance the Way I Feel’ by ‘Ou Est Le Swimming Pool’ which is still so freaking good. Somewhat unfortunately he went for a more heavy approach. Very heavy remix from our man: Armand Van Helden!

Brodinski – My Jerk Mixtape

February 14th, 2010 | Hyped by REDNIK

I’m a big fan of Brodinski‘s dj sets. Certainly after Pukkelpop where he played one of the best sets of the whole 3 days (in my opinion). Already counting down to his next performance in Belgium (don’t know when though!), but for now I’ll settle for this 45minute mixtape. The mixtape isn’t a normal routine from Brodinski, lot of hip-hop/rnb tracks. I’m digging this, but I think a lot of people will be rather suprised. I was less suprised because I recently checked a few of his posts on his own blog (http://smokemashine.blogspot.com/)which included a lot of hip-hop tracks as well.

Brodinski – My Jerk Mixtape (zShare)

1. Asia Lynn – Pretty Girls Jerk Too
2. The Breakfast Club – Big Boobs
3. Trill – Feelin My Doughie
4. YG – Fucked Up
5. Ron C – Drop It
6. Fe RAw – I Do Know I’m Fly
7. Lost Generation – Go Bad
8. YT – I’m On
9. YG – Just Broke Up
10. YG – She A Model
11. The Rangers – Tag Em In
12. Jaye Cooley – You Wid It
13. New Era & YT – Flow’s So Cold
14. The Rangers – Go Hard

Dubstep Round Up #2

February 14th, 2010 | Hyped by Jack Herror

pic by David Mascha

Dubstep Round Up, Part 2. In case you missed the first one, here it is.
I’ll start this post with a heavy pounding remix by Nero. This is one of those tunes that will get the whole crowd movin’ on their feet. Like… anthem-style.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

CTRL-Z & Screwface Present Stereotype – Shock (Nero Remix)

Back in december Circus Records (releasing filth by Doctor P, Flux Pavilion, and more) launched a remix contest for Flux’ new tune called “Voscillate”. Roksonix detroyed the competition with this banging tune.
Also, be sure to prepare yourself for GetDarker TV: Circus Takeover the 9th of March with Doctor P, Flux, Cookie and Funtcase!! It will be a 4-hour video stream filled with “skull-crushing dubstep madness”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Flux Pavilion – Voscillate (Roksonix Remix)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Doctor P – Badman Sound

British hiphop collective Foreign Beggars have a thing for sick beats. That’s why they got Noisia to produce some of the tunes on their new album (they turned out to be the best tracks on the cd, check out Contact and Shake It). Their aggressive raps fit perfectly with the heavy dubstep filth we all love. One of the excellent remixes comes from man of the moment Excision.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Foreign Beggars & Noisia – No Holds Barred (Excision Remix)

Did I just say Foreign Beggars have aggressive raps? Wait until you hear grime MC Tempa T on the mic. Ashburner made the perfect remix with the perfect beats for his tune “Next Hype”. Check the video here. Big tune!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Tempa T – Next Hype (Ashburner Remix)

Drum & bass legends Drumsound & Bassline Smith have been around for about 10 years now and have produced a large amount of hits. It doesn’t seem like they’re stopping any time soon, because those hits keep coming. With “R U Ready” last year, they had another great partystarter, which is now revived with this bigroom dubstep remix.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Drumsound & Simon ‘Bassline’ Smith Ft. Youngman – R U Ready (Dubstep Mix)

Next is the highly enjoyable second track on RDubz‘ newest EP. If you like this tune, click here and buy the EP!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

RDubz – Creep

After all this heaviness it’s time to mellow things down a bit. Here’s three tracks that you can chill to.
First is the free giveaway remix by Breakage. The first single off Massive Attack’s new (great) album gets a nice dubstep treatment.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Breakage’s Tight Rope Remix) [320]

Then there’s Elemental, a producer who is relatively unknown to me. His latest release “925 b/w Arise” is a must have for all the bass lovers out there. Buy the EP here.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Elemental – Arise

Last but not least a tune with a nice flow and some cool vocals. TRG made this one back in 2008.

TRG – Everything We Stand For

That’s about it. Leave a comment if you liked this post. Peace!

Interview with Mumbai Science!

February 10th, 2010 | Hyped by REDNIK

Mumbai Science, hmmm, who are these guys? Let me see: “Jonas Kiesekoms and Maarten Elen” , hmmm, wait a minute? Aren’t these the two guys behind Project Cyborg?….
I had to know who or what was behind Mumbai Science and contacted them for the following exclusive interview!

Hello guys, I’m going to start off with a question you were probably expecting. Why a new alias Mumbai Science and not just continue under your known name “Project Cyborg”?
Well, we felt the time had come for a fresh start. We’ve been working under the Cyborg alias for more than 5 years now, and a lot has changed in both our lives. Signing with Lektroluv records gave us the perfect opportunity to think about where we were heading in the future. You could look at Mumbai Science as a new chapter for Maarten and me, and a new chapter needs a ringing title!

The EP teaser definitely sounds more “mature” or “serious” then your Project Cyborg productions, is that the biggest difference between the two?
Our sound has definitely evolved over the past few years. With Mumbai Science we decided to go back to our roots and use a cleaner sound than our previous work. To be honest; the biggest difference is that the tracks just sound better than our old stuff (laughs).

Lektroluv Records is becoming a rather big Belgian label, how did you guys get in contact with the green doctor?
Scientific conferences off course… That and he picked us up after Wearhouse Music showed interest in our tracks. After that it all went pretty fast, we met the doc at his office, had a few drinks and here we are today!

I read about people saying Mumbai Science being the “new” Sound of Stereo. It is clear when listening to the EP teaser of your upcoming release that you guys have been influenced a lot by Sound of Stereo (I think), or are there more other influences that brought fort these productions for the first EP?
Jochen and Vincent are good friends of ours. They released on Lektroluv records and they’re also a duo so obviously there are some resemblances; but we differ quite a lot when it comes down to sound. Sound of Stereo’s productions are more layered whereas we like to keep our sound a bit more basic and dry. We have been inspired very hard by those guys on one point though and that’s their perfectionism. We really admire both of them for the massive amount of time and work they spend on all of their tracks and EP’s as a whole. Another Belgian artist we think high of would have to be Keatch. We differ a lot when it comes down to sound or genre for that matter, but we share the same philosophy about music in all its forms. He’ll definitely kick some international ass very soon!
Off course there are some international producers who we admire as well. Number one on our list at the moment is Harvard Bass!

If we book Mumbai Science, are we getting a different set than if we would have booked you guys in the past?
Mumbai Science DJ sets are a lot fresher than the stuff we did in the past. We like to build the tension in our sets a bit slower and give the crowd some time to really get into the vibe. Once there, we’re on our way to a banging apotheosis! We have been using a lot of techno influences in our sets lately and it seems to work very well. The power in some of those tracks is amazing and should never be underestimated!

2010 is looking good for you guys. Signing up with Lektroluv records probably opened a lot of doors, … more than Project Cyborg would ever had opened you think?
There are some great things happening at the moment, we’re really on a roll! Signing with Lektroluv has been a major change in our career and we’re able to do some pretty amazing stuff. But we like to believe we made it happen through our hard work in the past. We’re really grateful for the opportunities we get today but most of all we’re proud we were able to make this step. We’re up for the challenge, and hope we’ll get some major support from both Belgium and abroad!

Mumbai is one of the most popular cities in the world. Why the name Mumbai Science? Do you guys have any connection with this city for some sort, or?
We’re both scientists by day, so the second part of our name is quite easy to explain. The first part however… We both like the cultural background of Mumbai and South-East Asia as a whole. We also used the Lotus Temple as an inspiration for our logo. Culture and religion meeting science in music! Sick

So to line things up, which releases are coming on which label and of course ‘when’?
You can expect the first Mumbai Science EP on Lektroluv records somewhere around the end of March! We’re already working hard on the second EP, which will sound a lot different from the first one. But I guess we’ll keep you posted about that!

Thanks for the interview guys and good luck with Mumbai Science!
Thanks for having us!

Brains…Off

February 10th, 2010 | Hyped by Jack Herror

Lately I’ve been having a hard time finding new electro bangers. It’s not that I can’t find any of them, but it just only happens occasionally that I get impressed by a new electro track. Not a couple times a day, like it used to be. Is it because I’m just bored of the whole electro/fidget sound, or because the electro scene is kinda dead at the moment? Personally I think the dubstep scene is delivering much more original and inspired stuff right now. But then again I can imagine a lot of you think differently, so I’ll post some of the electro tunes I could enjoy.

First of all I think Dirty Disco Youth does keep bringing those nice bouncy electro bangers. His last EP “…Off” released on Dim Mak is no exception. Here’s the B-side of the EP and a remix by FUKKK OFFF.

Check out the latest release coming from Party Like Us Records. Udachi‘s wobbly “P-Funk Skank” gets remixed by great producers like Nadastrom, Dave Nada and B.Rich. Here’s the original track.

Our Dutch neighbours have been doing some great things in the electro scene last year. This year it will be Oliver Twizt making big tunes like “Gangsterdam”, released on Laidback Luke’s Mixmash label.

15 Seconds

February 7th, 2010 | Hyped by REDNIK

A time ago it seemed like we posted a GTRONIC track every single week! It’s been while now though, so I thought the next GTRONIC promo would be a good share. It’s a remix for aUtOdiDakT ft. RQM – 15 seconds, it’s been going around in the Belgian dj scene for quite a while now, and now finally on your favourite blog! The track starts off with some cool vocal work and then completely plunges into a raw crunching track, typical for GTRONIC’s producing style.
