I Love Techno 2011 CD mixed by CASSIUS

I Love Techno tonight! Time to get siked and which way better than with the official mix cd. After last years Steve Aoki mix the honours went to Cassius this year. Cassius is probably best known for tracks as “My Feelings For You”, “The Sound Of Violence”, “I <3 U So”, and so on! The tracklisting is very interesting and is too my surprise less “commercial” then I expected, lots of producers that haven’t reached the big audience yet, but of course we see a Boys Noize track, etc pass by. My favourite part of the mix is probably the opening track “DJ Mehdi – Pocket Piano”, let’s hope we’ll be hearing a lot of Mehdi tracks tonight, damn I miss that guy! Dems – House

Bad Life records is on a roll! We got the re-invented autoKratz on the label, the new EP ‘Payne’ by NT89 and after all that ‘future techno’ violence they now signed a band. Dems is a trio from London creating soulful synth pop. Their debut EP is called “House” and has deep beats, dreamy guitar riffs and vocals that will cut right through you! We have the Jean Nipon remix as a free download which I probably find even more amazing as the original, awesome sound without losing the essential of the original, big up! Coming digitally and on limited 7” vinyl, from November 14th through Bad Life.

Dems – House (Jean Nipon Remix)

New Look

Okay, so this week I’ve been listening to the Jamie XX essential mix for like probably the 100th time and so it was time to check out some of the tracks individually. The first one from the mix that got stuck in my head was “Jean Jacques Smoothie – 2 People” an old classic that scored big in Belgium, check out the clip here (not as good as the track, by far!). Now this next track also has a very old school vibe, but is actually rather new! New look is formed by the couple Sarah Ruba and Adam Pavao who are based in New York. The track you hear from them in Jamie XX’s essential mix is called “Janet”. Fader (a blog where I picked this up this MP3) describes the tracks with a cold groove and soulful warm vocals. Perfect description. Enjoy this track, I know you will! Now I’m off to discover what more “New Look” has to offer!

WIN: I LOVE TECHNO 2011

On 12 November Ghent will be ready again for Techno madness! Well … techno? There’s been a lot of complaints by die hard fans that there isn’t enough techno music at I Love Techno these days. But hey, music is constantly evolving and that’s what’s great about it! And if you know a thing or two about music you can see some pretty good techno names if you want too. Looking forward to this one, be sure to check back after the event, I’m hoping to do some coverage afterwards!

SBTRKT – Essential Mix

For me personally SBTRKT was the biggest and most interesting revelation of 2011, quality music wise at least! I’m still frustrated that I couldn’t make his show last week and I’m hoping I’ll get the chance too see him live in the future. Amazing music and even more amazing vocal work by Sampha on most of the tracks. The SBRKT essential mix was aired friday night on BBC one radio and for those who missed it, grab it below, it’s as most essential mixes: brilliant!

Red Bull Elektropedia Awards 2011

Last year there were the Red Bull Elektropedia Vanguard Awards who were given to some of the biggest Belgian dance icons, this year Red Bull Elektropedia along with media partner Studio Brussel introduce the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards: 13 awards in all kinds of different categories such as ‘Best DJ’, ‘Best Producer’, ‘Best Track’,'Best Remix’ and so on! A professional jury, including us (yeah I like to call myself a professional *COUGH*) nominated BELGIAN(!) djs / producers / bands for all the categories and now it’s up to you, the audience, the music enthusiast, the party people to get your vote on! The awards will be handed out to the winners on the 12th of November in Ghent just before I Love Techno 2011 starts (awesome afterparty or what?!)

Now, before I (finally) introduce the nominees I also would like to point out that GetHypedOnThis is selected for the ‘Best Media’ category which of course is a big honor for us! So if you like our blog and the work we put in it, give us some love!

Jealov – Translations Ep

Had a nice vacation, did a lot of … nothing … but that’s what vacations are for I guess. The weather is finally getting better in Belgium, but I kept you guys waiting long enough so time to get going again.

And what better way to start blogging again then with a free EP coming from creative minds Jealov. Their Translations EP is getting a free release on the Los Angeles based Mush Records, some of the tracks already past this frontpage but are worth posting again! Hard to paste a genre on their music, but I would say it something of a combination between experimental electro, trip-hop, dubstep combined with the creative use of known samples coming from Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Rihanna and so on. Their other EP ‘Framework’ is also getting a release on the Mush Records label, so don’t hesitate to check their website or like them on facebook.
