Back 2 Basic

First time I’m doing this, but I love this project so much that I have to be straight forward to some of the blog fans and regular visitors. I started this website as a small lame blog in 2008 and slowly the blog grew in size, quality and popularity. I tried to get content as fresh as possible and to re-invent the website all the time, new layouts were created, some more functionality and so on. I wanted the blog to grow out to be a community. But …

With all these plans and ideas I kind of lost time and track of why I started this website in the first place: share my love of music. I tried to get other people involved while I lost my own involvement and even interest in the website (hence the lots of ups and downs in activity). The latest website layout was an attempt to step away from the blog aspect and become more of a “magazine” style like website. But this kind of stranded because a lack of my time and inspiration.

Now, where am I going with all of this? I’m throwing aboard a lot of stuff I tried to do the last few months. We’re going back to a “normal” blog website and I will be posting my love for music, art, culture and so on … So back to basic, back to where we were a good year ago and eventually how it should be. So expect no-nonsense media, sometimes not the latest news and tracks but probably still only the best.

Hope this all makes sense to those who even took the time to read this. I also hope with the new state of mind of the website and myself I can manage to squeeze in more time (or better spend time) in more regular updates. Any comments, likes or dislikes on this … don’t hold back!

WIN: I LOVE TECHNO 2011

On 12 November Ghent will be ready again for Techno madness! Well … techno? There’s been a lot of complaints by die hard fans that there isn’t enough techno music at I Love Techno these days. But hey, music is constantly evolving and that’s what’s great about it! And if you know a thing or two about music you can see some pretty good techno names if you want too. Looking forward to this one, be sure to check back after the event, I’m hoping to do some coverage afterwards!

Red Bull Elektropedia Awards 2011

Last year there were the Red Bull Elektropedia Vanguard Awards who were given to some of the biggest Belgian dance icons, this year Red Bull Elektropedia along with media partner Studio Brussel introduce the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards: 13 awards in all kinds of different categories such as ‘Best DJ’, ‘Best Producer’, ‘Best Track’,'Best Remix’ and so on! A professional jury, including us (yeah I like to call myself a professional *COUGH*) nominated BELGIAN(!) djs / producers / bands for all the categories and now it’s up to you, the audience, the music enthusiast, the party people to get your vote on! The awards will be handed out to the winners on the 12th of November in Ghent just before I Love Techno 2011 starts (awesome afterparty or what?!)

Now, before I (finally) introduce the nominees I also would like to point out that GetHypedOnThis is selected for the ‘Best Media’ category which of course is a big honor for us! So if you like our blog and the work we put in it, give us some love!

All the nominees after the jump! Or skip straight to the voting: right here

RELAUNCH!

Allright, finally got the new blog layout up and running. It still needs some tweaking and fine-tuning here and there, but it should be pretty much “surfable”. Hoping to add some more new stuff later this week as well. If the website doesn’t look very good you are probably are using an outdated version of Internet Explorer, don’t know if i’ll fine tune the website for those browsers in the future. So what’s new to the layout? A bit of re-arrenging and some CSS3 stuff along with a Featured Content box to highlight the most important posts! You can also rate posts now, gives a good measurement of what people like and what not of course!

While counting down to the new launch I also started a quest for new writers, we are thinking about “recruiting” one extra poster for Electro/House and one for DnB/Dubstep, had a lot of candidates who will all be contacted with further info if they are still interested!

So that’s the most important stuff so far, all other changes in the next weeks will be posted on facebook and twitter!

And to hopefully make up for our absence ….:

RBMA: Big In Japan

Probably not the best timing to write about something involving Japan at the moment, of course all our thoughts go out to all the victims. But what is it about then? Well Red Bull Music Academy is looking for talented producers who (when selected) will get their hands on the most exclusive recording studios, producing material/software and will be playing sets at the biggest venues in town (all expenses paid including: flight, hotel, meals, drinks). So if you want to experience that which Jamie Woon, Aloe Blacc, Hudson Mohawke, Camo & Krooked and Flying Lotus experienced the last years with RBMA don’t hesitate and sign up!

And for our Belgian readers, RBMA is also striking down in Belgium doing some exclusive sessions getting all of you uptodate of what RBMA is all about. For more info (where, when, …) check out any of the next towns in your area: Hasselt, Gent, Antwerpen.

Last but not least there’s also an invite-only party at Avenue L (Ghent) with Morgan Geist, Retro/Grade, Fredo and Sam vs. Kong. I have some invites to give away so just email us with subject “RBMA Avenue L” and you get a duo-ticket for this exclusive party! It’s already next weekend so don’t hesitate to long.

The “best” tracks of 2010!

I finally catched up with all my sleep, my stomach feels like I can now go without food for 2 weeks, which means it’s time to get active again! I normally planned this post for the last week of 2010, but I completely lost track with my “schedule” so here it is, the best tracks of 2010 by your votes!

It’s the first time we did something like this, but it’s always cool to see some responds and feedback from weekly readers, we got 100+ people sharing their top 3 of 2010 which made me end up with 233 different tracks voted for! It’s clearly that our visitors have very variate tastes, which is very cool for us! Because our goal is anything but being mainstream, we just do our thing. Because the very variate votes, it took rather long too see a top 10 appear, but here are the results:

01. Duck Sauce – Barbara Streisand
02. Doctor P – Big Boss
03. Boys Noize – Yeah!

Unexpected top 3? Well yeah, actually it is. Barbara Streisand of course not being it still is huge in Belgium after all that airtime, but how bored you get of the track you still catch yourself singing along with the tune. Then Doctor P with his track Big Boss, dubstep was probably the biggest hype in 2010 and Doctor P did bring us one of the more commercial and therefore popular dubstep tracks. The biggest surprise for me is number 3, don’t get me wrong this track deserves this top 3 spot in my opinion but I had no clue this track was so huge for the rest of the “scene”

04 – 06. Doctor P – Sweet Shop
04 – 06. Mumbai Science – Ancova
04 – 06. Tiga – You Gonna Want Me (Hey Today! Remix)

Doctor P yet again, dubstep a hype in 2010? you bet. Than there is the revelation of 2010: Mumbai Science, they were popular as Project Cyborg in Belgium, but then they took over the world as Mumbai Science. Well deserved spot in the list! Tiga – YGWM (Hey Today! Remix) took ages to be released and everybody already heard it enough before it’s release on Turbo Recordings.

07 – 09. Bart B More – Brap
07 – 09. Erol Alkan & Boys Noize – Lemonade
07 – 09. Swedish House Mafia – One

Brap! When I first this track I seriously thought: “Why the hell is everybody liking this track? It’s crap!” but it simply grows on you and hits you right in the stomach when it’s being played at those big partys. Lemonade then again was love at first sight, two of my idols combining forces, no way this could have gone wrong. SHM – One, … most people love it some not really, I’m not the biggest fan and I prefer the Congorock remix far more (that’s why I “accidentally linked that one, woooops)!

10 – 12. Cassius – I Love You So
10 – 12. Gonzales – I Am Europe (Djedjotronic Remix)
10 – 12. Magnetic Man – Perfect Stranger

I Love You So is one of my favourite tracks of 2010, simple and effective, I’m only bumped out the App was only made for iphone device and not for android devices. Gonzales also one of my favourite artists of 2010, making me completely in love with the piano. One of the best albums of 2010 as well by the way, must have. And “last” but not least, no dubstep hype without Magnetic Man!

So this was your top tracks of 2010, this what you all expected? I think in generally it pretty much fits what was going on in 2010. I could go on and on about why some tracks did do well in 2010 and why some didn’t but this post is already going out of proportion and I need to get working on those first posts of 2011. Enjoy 2011 and I hope we can entertain you guys as good as we did in 2010! Big big love, the GetHypedOnThis team!

Guest bloggin’ for Phantasysound.co.uk

I announced this one on our facebook page a few days ago. We got asked to do a guest post on the rather new formed phantasy sound blog. Their blog focusses on artist who are signed to the Phantasy Sound label (from Erol Alkan). I didn’t want to write something that has been blogged over and over again already, so I went kinda back 2 back to my first “contacts” with Erol Alkan and Late Of The Pier.

This will probably not be the last post in collaboration with Phantasysound.co.uk, so you can probably expect some exclusive tracks and interview coming your way in the near future!

TWO YEARS!

Hooray! It’s our birthday! That’s right, you favourite blog has already been spreading hypes onto the world wide web for two years now. We started as a lame, one out of the thousand, blogspot blog and grew to become one of the best known blogs in Belgium (and maybe even further!). We aren’t done expanding, along with Jack Herror and EJECT! we are constantly looking for ways to get some exclusive and fresh content going. What to expect in our year number three? More music, more mixtapes, more interviews, more videos, more hypes and we are already making plans for some cool GetHypedOnThis goodies as stickers and Tshirts. AND! if everything goes as planned the first GetHypedOnThis party could be a fact before the end of this year! Stay tuuuned

Last but not least I want to thank: Jack Herror and EJECT! for the input into the blog and keeping things going along with me! All the artists and labels that sent us all that fresh content. AOOA.TV for the hot and exclusive party videos! All the Belgian (and non-Belgian of course!) artists that have shown support as we supported them and last but not least all you fans and daily readers that appreciate our posts! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
