Drums Of Death “Generation Hexed” (Review)

Lately I’m getting lots of personal requests to review albums. Even though my review skills are amateuristic and probably rather poor I absolutely love it! It’s always nice to be hearing/judging a complete package then just a single, lose, separate track of which I get dozens. The album I’ll be “reviewing” is Generation Hexed from Drums Of Death.
I wasn’t very fimiliar with Drums Of Death when I got the promo copy in my inbox, so I had nu clue of what to expect. After listening to the intro song Karaoke … I was still rather clueless, clearly an intro track! But then starting from track two it was clear were this was going to: rave, acid like house tunes and jumpy beats, but also funky synths and lot of bleeps (accompanied with the jumping beats still of course)! When reading about Drums Of Death on the web I read people describing Drums Of Death as Grimey music, no idea what it is, but apparently this! All the beats and bleeps are accompanied by the vocal work of Colin Bailey (real name of DoD) who’s voice reminds me a lot of of the voice of James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) apart from Colin doing a bit more yelling. Half-way the album there is this great instrumental track “Creak” which brings a nice break/pauze in the album by pulling down the BPM and having long build ups. After that break it’s just straight on party music again, you can easily understand why DOD gets such good feedback on his live performances, this music is just made for live shows in my opinion.
Generation Hexed is already released on the Hot Chip associated Greco-Roman label (now that I read that, it even has some Hot Chip like influences!). We got the permission to share one track as a free download, “Everything All At Dub” gives a pretty good idea how the album sounds.
