Duke Dumont – BBC1 Essential Mix
Been a while since I posted an Essential Mix! What better way to break the “essential mix” silence than with this one from the talented (or some might call him crazy) The Gaslamp Killer. His own music is what we call experimental electro these days, but you clearly hear in his records that he uses a lot of real/live recorded instruments (check out his debut album Breakthrough), so not only beats and bleeps. Anyway, a 2hour mix packed with lot’s of dope experimental tracks ranging from Flying lotus to Mr. Oizo and of course including some of his own work.
For me personally SBTRKT was the biggest and most interesting revelation of 2011, quality music wise at least! I’m still frustrated that I couldn’t make his show last week and I’m hoping I’ll get the chance too see him live in the future. Amazing music and even more amazing vocal work by Sampha on most of the tracks. The SBRKT essential mix was aired friday night on BBC one radio and for those who missed it, grab it below, it’s as most essential mixes: brilliant!

A BBC1 essential mix by Brodinski … nothing more to add here really… ENJOY!

Die & Interface Ft. William Cartwright – Bright Lights (Netsky Remix)

“Naples born, London based, DJ & Producer Riva Starr takes control of the Essential Mix. He’s one of 2010’s hottest properties and has recently remixed the likes of Fatboy Slim, The Gossip and Reboot. His new album, “If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade”, has just been released on Jesse Rose’s Made To Play Records. The mix features exclusive tracks from his new label ‘Snatch!’”
“Riva Starr is a name that should be very familiar to anyone with an interest in modern house music. Having shot to the top after a string of head turning releases and remixes on some of the most talked about labels, Riva Starr couldn’t be hotter right now. What’s quite remarkable though is how quickly Stefano Miele, aka Riva Starr has established himself so prominently on a DJ/producer circuit that’s notoriously difficult to break into. It doesn’t hurt that Claude VonStroke and Jesse Rose, the two men who sit on top of the pile, happen to be two of his biggest fans.”

When you hear an essential mix you almost always know you’re in for a good 2 hour mix! I’m currently listening to the essential mix of The Twelves which was broadcasted yesterday. Half way in the set I can say this is yet again a briliant 2 hour mix. Very soulful and funky which probably has something to do with their origins, being Brazil. I’m using the download link from one of my favourite blogs “Too Many Sebastians“, I hope they don’t mind!

Better late then never I guess. I haven’t downloaded them so maybe you haven’t either. Here are the essential mixes from Dj Mehdi and Busy P (7/11).
