Dubstep Round Up #9

Lets start this 9th episode of our beloved Dubstep Round Up series with a real banger! As you all probably know Original Sin is a badass jump up drum & bass producer. With many classics to his name (also from his G Dub-years) he has nothing to prove anymore. Still he keeps raising the bar producing banger after banger, not caring whether it’s drum & bass, drumstep or even dubstep. On his latest offering on the infamous label Playaz Recordings he tries out many different styles. “Air Raid” is the only dubstep tune on the EP, but it’s definitely a heavy one! Check it out below! You can find the remaining tracks here.

Original Sin – Air Raid

The next tune is actually drumstep, but it’s a remix by Flux Pavilion so I’m not really cheating… It’s his first drumstep tune, but he shows his skills once again. It definitely has that ‘Flux-sound’ to it! Kinda makes me excited about what the future will bring for this guy.

Example – Midnight Run (Flux Pavilion Remix)

Talking about the future, these guys know all about it. Koan Sound have been pushing the envelope for years now and they’re finally getting some well-deserved recognition. On their latest EP Funk Blaster their main focus again went to 100BPM music, but I could also find a great dubstep track in there. Check out these tunes and buy the EP here.

Koan Sound – Meanwhile, In The Future

Koan Sound – The Edge

A bit heavier is Hulk‘s latest EP Smash The Planet. Prolific‘s “This Is For My Hustlas” gets a nice rework. Buy the EP here.

Prolific Ft. Cojaxx – This Is For My Hustlas (Hulk Remix)

Up-and-coming UK dubstep producer Widowmaker on his turn decided to make a remix of Skream‘s “Wobble That Gut”. A wise man once told me never to touch classics like that, but Widowmaker’s effort is rather huge! Not only does his remix outweigh the original, he decided to give it away for free! That’s right, go thank the man on his facebook page.

Skream – Wobble That Gut (Widowmaker Remix) (320)

Next up I have three tracks for you that go very deeep. “No 6″ by Soap Dodgers was released on Wheel & Deal Records two months ago. The b-side “Drum Roll” is worth checking out as well. More recently SP:MC had a release on Tempa. The a-side “Hunted”, which is also very minimal, features Lx One.

Time to finish this post with a bangin’ track by MiM0SA. Someone, give me a car with a decent soundsystem, so I can drive around while blastin’ this song through the speakers! I wouldn’t call it a ‘dubstep’ tune, but I can’t come up with any label that would fit this kind of music… So just hit the play button and find out for yourself! His album is available on iTunes.

Dubstep Round Up #6

pic by Justin Maller and Emeric Trahand

It’s been a long time since we’ve made a round up of the latest dubstep tunes. With some big new releases from Flux Pavilion and Downlink, I felt like it was time for another one! I tried to make a quick selection of the hottest tracks right now.

Drum & bass producers go dubstep, part 1.
Adam F turned Afrojack’s tune into a real dubstep anthem. The build up has a big trance-feel to it, but the drop is totally worth it. Commercial dubstep at its best.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Afrojack Ft Eva Simons – Take Over Control (Adam F Remix)

Drum & bass producers go dubstep, part 2.
Original Sin (ex G-Dub) and Taxman, two masters of the jump up d&b scene, collaborated for their “Penamana EP”. The Ep contains two dubstep and two drum & bass tracks. Take No More is the stand out track for me, using their older sounds in a dubstep track! Did I mention Taxman and Original Sin are brothers?

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Original Sin & Taxman – Take No More

The biggest EP this week came from Flux Pavilion. It’s called “Lines In Wax EP”, holds 4 tracks which are all big tunes! There’s ‘I Can’t Stop’, there’s the vocals from Foreign Beggars on the title track, and then there’s these two:

Flux Pavilion – Hold Me Close

Flux Pavilion – Haunt You

Buy the EP at Beatport.

Like I said earlier Downlink released some great stuff as well! He sticked to his signature style, but the EP has still some great variation. Show some support and buy the EP here!

Downlink – Emergency

Hulk is a collaboration between Claw and Richie August. They’ve made some great tunes, but haven’t really got to the big crowd yet. It will only be a matter of time I guess!

Danny Scrilla – Out There (Hulk Remix)

What’s a dubstep round up without the one and only Doctor P? His latest remix got featured as a bonus track on Blame’s new album “The Music”.

Blame – Star (Ft. Fuda Guy & Camilla Marie) (Doctor P Remix)

A piano melody, a catchy voice and a big big drop. Dubba Jonny did a great job trying to make an anthem. However the track gets too hectic sometimes (big drop + piano + vocals = a bit too much). Here‘s the videoclip.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Dubba Jonny – All In

Drum & bass producers go dubstep, part 3.
On Shock One’s latest remix EP, a dubstep remix by Phetsta popped up.
As far as I know it’s his first dubstep tune and it’s a pretty good one! The vocals tend to give me the creeps though…

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Shock One – True Believer (Phetsta’s Dubstep Rework)

Drum & bass producers go dubstep, part 4.
Also Muffler wanted to make something new after dozens of drum & bass releases and 10 years in the business. So why not dubstep, he thought. This is the result:

One to watch: Trolley Snatcha’s “One Trick Pony EP”, released on October 25th. More info.

Back For More

pic by Hobogestapo

I’ve been a bit lazy around these pages for the past week, but here I am once again with some fresh drum & bass for y’all!

First of all I wanted to make sure all you drum & bass lovers out there would support our Belgian pride Netsky and buy his debut album, released June 14th on Hospital Records! Believe you me, it’s gonna be Big! Here’s a little foretaste so you know what to expect:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Netsky – Iron Heart

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Netsky – Secret Agent

Netsky again, but remixed by Shock One from Australia this time. I’m not sure which one I like the most. This one is a bit more dancefloor oriented than the original, but they’re both just great.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Netsky – I Refuse (Shock One Remix)

D*Minds (aka Distorted Minds) have been around for more than 10 years now. Time to update some of their older tunes, they must have thought. “T-10″ is a classic tune, now rebuilt to the biggest drumstep track I have ever heard. One of their more recent releases was Ho Bass backed with Ghost Town, two heavy hitters. Both tunes just got a VIP edit, released on their own label D Style! Buy the EP here.

D*Minds – T-10 (Gangsta Step Mix)

D*Minds – Ghost Town VIP

The Belgian party crowd will probably remember Original Sin as the guy who cancelled three partys in a row, but he’s also the one who took jump up drum & bass to the next level! On “Back For More” he busts out the heaviest wobbles possible. On the flipside there’s Taxman with “Evasion VIP”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Original Sin – Back For More

The last tune is a little bit different from what I usually post here. It’s a rather dark track, but has a bouncy vibe to it. I think they sampled System Of A Down for the short vocal clip. Big up to Gridlok and Black Sun Empire for this one!

Gridlok – Wake Up (Black Sun Empire Remix)

Peace!

Off Limits

The new Huoratron EP has been rocking my eardrums for a couple of days now and I can’t get enough of it! Especially the original mixes by the man himself stand out from the pack. Give these tunes a listen, buy them in full quality here and go to Fight Klub Round #4 where he’ll be performing the 27th.

Huoratron – Gbay

UK based producer/DJ Tom EQ makes some of the best jackin’ house tunes. This one was released on Jack Union back in January. It’s a nice bass driven stomper and kinda reminds me of HiJack, which is always a good thing. Beatport link.

Tom EQ – Off Limits

Fidget house is not dead… yet. At least not when Calvertron keeps making bangers like this… Buy from Potty Mouth music.

Magik Johnson – The Boy Blew (Calvertron Remix)

So far for the house/fidget tracks. The Upbeats are an open minded collective mainly specialised in drum & bass music, but they’re not afraid of experimenting with other genres. Macabre is a banging dubstep tune from their latest LP “Big Skeleton”, which can be found here.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The Upbeats – Macabre (Ft. Crushington)

It’s not much waiting anymore until Original Sin‘s debut album “Grow Your Wings” hits the stores (the 7th December). This heavy jump up tune should keep you busy until then.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Original Sin – Pimp Don’t Limp

This track created some fuzz in the drum & bass scene. Release of this dancefloor smasher by Jaydan: 30th November.

Time To Change

original sin
Check out this sick tune by Original Sin. He remixes Clipz with his typical stomping sounds. The message of this killer track: ‘Vinyl is not dead’. On the flipside there’s Interface with “Get Lo” which has a big fat bassline.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Clipz – Download (Original Sin Remix)

On his latest EP, Dub Peddla delivers some nasty wobblers, including this heavy remix of G Squad’s “Fuck Em Off”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

G Squad – Fuck Em Off (Dub Peddla Ft. Unix DJ Remix)

This one by Metrik is a bit softer, but it’s still gonna get the crowd going. If you’re a fan of our Belgian pride Netsky, you’ll probably dig this too!

Last Jungle

With Sub Focus‘ latest full length album, he now is one of the biggest drum & bass producers worldwide. The CD has a great diversity, going from mainly drum & bass, to old school breakbeat and even some (fidget) house! As a tastemaker, I’ll give you three very different tunes from the album, which is a must for every drum & bass fan!

“Vapourise” brings some great energy and reminds me of his dancefloor hit “Timewarp”.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Sub Focus – Vapourise

I could describe “Last Jungle” best as the 2009 version of breakbeat classic “Papua New Guinea” from The Future Sound Of London. If you don’t know that track, check out this psychedelic video here.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Sub Focus – Last Jungle

Here’s one of the few house tracks, with a piano riff and a catchy vocal building up to a nice climax reminding me of Gtronic (but it’s a bit softer).

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Sub Focus – Could This Be Real

Now it’s only waiting for Original Sin (who used to be half of Generation Dub/G Dub) to drop his first album “Grow Your Wings”. I expect a lot from this one! His tunes are always refreshing and very influential for other producers.
