Institubes (2003-2011)

The Institubes label is dead (and for real this time). News that saddens me. It’s the label that introduced me to the so called “blog house”, back in 2006. Artists like Surkin, Bobmo and Para One had a platform to release their refreshing sounds. The first time I heard “Ghetto Obsession” and “Radio Fireworks” by Surkin, it felt like there was a whole unknown world of music just waiting there to be discovered. Maybe now these two tunes don’t sound that special anymore, but for me it was something really crazy, unheard of back then.

It was the time of the upcoming remix culture. I used to check Palms Out Sounds’ Remix Sundays, which lead me to artists like Para One, who brought a totally new style. Check out these tunes and the video for “Dudun-Dun”, all from around 2006.

Carte Blanche

A collaboration between Riton (UK) and DJ Mehdi (FR), what more do you need to get the hype started? Together they made an EP containing 5 banging tracks, under the alias of Carte Blanche.

The EP is called “Black Billionaires” and contains a guest appearance by Kid Sister. It will be released on Ed Banger Records the 31st of May.

Carte Blanche is currently touring through Europe untill half June and will then hit the USA for the rest of their big Summer 2010 World Tour.

Our Belgian readers can go check them out twice this weekend! Friday Carte Blanche will be playing in K-NAL (Brussels) at Anarchic, while Saturday you can see them in Petrol, Antwerp (info).

Primary 1 & Riton – Radiates

The follow up to their summer smash “Who’s There” (which came out on their friend Erol Alkan’s “Phantasy Sound” label) is Radiation. Some what of the same style as “Who’s There”, which was of course to be expected. And I’m certainly not saying it as a bad thing (love the vocal work by Primary 1)! It comes with remixes by Joker and Riton which I’ll might share later.
