REDNIK’s Rock Werchter 2011 report!
I just survived my first big festival of the summer, Rock Werchter. More of a rock festival (as the name already spoiled), but it also features some nice electronic producers/dj’s name. Let me back up and tell you what I enjoyed the most these past 4 festival days.
James Blake was the only artist that first day with any relevance to this blog. I unfortunally only saw the first part of the performance and really enjoyed it. He didn’t get the best reviews, but I think James Blake just isn’t the artist for a big festival, more of a smaller venue where everybody shuts the f*ck up and listens.
Day two had Chase & Status, The Subs and Goose. Only got around seeying Goose (because of names like the Arctic Monkeys on the mainstage), but damn what a good show. Already been to other gigs by them, but those tracks from the latest album sure don’t miss impact when played live! Also really enjoyed the reworked version of ‘Black Gloves’
On the day number three we have the (commercial?) dubstep revelation Magnetic Man. Too bad Skream wasn’t with them, was apperently becoming a father for the first time that night, so I guess congrats to him by now! Nevertheless the whole marquee crowd got nuts on all tracks. Strong live performance by P Money at the end!
The last day I was getting all siked and pumped up for the last gig: Digitalism. Already played their new album ‘I Love You, Dude’ multiple times and was really curious on how Reaperbahn and Antidote would sound like live. Finally the moment was there. They played a mix of old and new and the old tracks sounded really good, but the new tracks just didn’t came to their right. Antidote sounded weak aswell as Reaperbahn that also seemed to fail technical wise. Could have been better guys allthough the live drummer is a nice addition!
Alright, that was me looking back at Rock Werchter, there were lots more names that I enjoyed or wished I could have seen. Don’t hold back to share your thoughts. Tomorrow you can expect a look forward to Les Ardentes!
