Mixed tapes

Lots of mixtapes passing by today, small list of those who have already found their way to my mp3 player! Some quality dj’s behind the decks: the popular Belgian duo Ed&Kim. Harvard Bass who’s recently release with Bart B More still blows me away every single time. Trash electro godfather SebastiAn. The Portugese duo behind Zombies For Money, who also have a new EP in the pipeline! And last but not least, after Surkin, my favourite Marble player: Bobmo!

I’ve been scavenging the blogosphere and our inbox this evening and found some tracks worth posting about! And apparently I felt like talking about it!

I’ll start off with the biggest hype on the blogs the last few days: Stylo from the Gorillaz. The remixes from Alex Metric, Yuksek and Chiddy Bang have been posted on numerous blogs and are praised by many authors and readers. Now today Chemical Jump posted a new remix from my favourite French House producer: Louis La Roche. As expected very funky with a down-tempo beat. Perfect for a relaxing evening!

Gorillaz – Stylo (Louis La Roche ‘Better Late Than Never’ Remix)

Another relaxing tune with some disco house influences comes from Moullinex who remixed Justin Faust‘s new release “Holdin’ on”. The digital release is available on Beatport. Not convinced yet? Check the original “Holdin’ On” and other production “Witty” on the Discodust blog.

Justin Faust – Holdin’ On (Moullinex Remix)

Little Boots scored rather well with her debut album “Hands”, but apparently the album wasn’t released in the US/Canada yet. Thanks to Elektra the release will also be available in the US and Canada March 2nd. One of the exclusive new remixes comes from GRVRBBRS. They remixed Tune Into My Heart. Very funky with of course the brilliant vocals from miss Little Boots herself.

Gonzales is bringing more damage in the electronic dance scene then you would expect! His rework of Boys Noize & Erol Alkan – Waves was to say the least AMAZING. A few days ago he unleashed a mixtape on the blogosphere. Beats, perfect lyrics and the amazingly perfect fitting piano in the background. You can find the mixtape right here. Gonzales also made a rework of Rollin’ & Scratchin by Daft Punk, his success-formula applies here as well!

Daft Punk – Rollin’ & Scratchin (Gonzales Rework)

Time to crank this post up with some bouncy tunes. Die Antwoord took the internet by storm and socialchannels as Facebook and Twitter were flooded with Die Antwoord videos. Of course it didn’t take long for remixes to appear such as this one by Slap In The Bass. Not a top quality production but quite enjoyable, just see it as some “Next-Level Sh*t!”.

Die Antwoord – Zef Side (Slap In The Bass Remix)

Last but not least a taster from the remix EP from our two Portuguese friends Zombies For Money (Dj Manaia and Klipar). Some interesting names on the remix EP: Malente, Jay Orbinson and Foamo, but if you want to get your hands on these remixes you’ll have to buy them on Beatport where the EP will be released the 25th February. We got, as a perfect taster, the remixes by Drop Top and Zeder.

Zombies For Money!

Last week I talked about Zombies For Money, a new project from Dj Manaia and Klipar. I could start typing some stuff about their first (free!) EP, but because Manaia and Klipar sent me such a nice written introduction I’m just going to drop it here and let them do the “talking”.

What Is A Zombie?
Although there are many different definitions for the word “zombie” from a West African Snake God to a West Indian victim of voodoo, what we are really talking about here is a reanimated, human corpse that seeks to devour the flesh of living human beings.

Can Zombie Outbreaks Be Discerned In The Archaeological Record?
Hard zombie evidence is always difficult to uncover. The bones of the living dead are not physically different from those of the conventionally deceased. An archaeologist looking for evidence of zombies should look for corpses that have been either decapitated or brained. As we all know, these two methods are the only two ways of stopping the living dead. Of course, a crushed skull does not necessarily prove the presence of the undead. If possible, scholars should research the methods of warfare used by the people in question. If decapitation and braining were not part of their “M.O.,” then cranial trauma might be a red flag.

The remains of a zombie’s victim may also tell us as much, if not more, than the remains of an actual zombie. Look for bones that have been marked by human teeth but lack the scrapes of a butchering implement. This may be evidence of the living dead, since traditional human cannibals have a tendency to ‘prepare’ their meals with scrapers and other tools.

Who Are Zombies For Money?
Zombies For Money are the ultimate 21st century zombie musicians! Fighting against the system they want take control of the record world industry… And destroy it! They are Manaia Shambling and Putrid Klipar II.
